Whitewater Rivers
American River-North Fork
Whitewater Class -
Description -
American river-north fork
Beginning as a mild stream, the North Fork American River gains momentum
quickly and leads into the Class IV "Chamberlin Falls Gorge," which is known
as the most challenging of all the rafting runs on the American. The North
Fork runs only in the springtime and early summer, where residual melting
snow still comes from the Sierras. The river drops down through an extremely
steep gorge, winding in between enormous boulders and over waterfalls
reaching a height of 8 feet. Endless crystal clear water and rapids are the
trademark of this challenging, technical river. The North Fork boasts to be
one of the most beautiful rivers in the Sierra and should only be attempted
by experienced rafters who have good physical conditioning.
